Uttarakhand is the 27th state of the republic of India. It came into existence on 9
November 2000 as “Uttaranchal” (separated from Uttar Pradesh). But after 1
January 2007, its name was changed to “Uttarakhand”. Uttarakhand is located at
the northern part of India.
It is also referred to as the DEVBHOOMI which means ‘land of Gods’.
It is called Devbhoomi because there are so many Hindu temples and pilgrimage
centers’.
Uttarakhand is a rich diversity of religion. People of
almost every religion can be found residing there peacefully. Uttarakhand ranks
19th in terms of area with a total area of 53,483 sq km, of which
65% area is covered with forest.
